Un/Re Threading the Needle deals with healing the self, particularly in the context of PTSD and trauma. The series of mixed media works represents themes of learning how to find freedom and happiness, while also practicing keeping oneself safe and maintaining boundaries, regardless of shame from others. The embroidery thread through each piece stands in for my own voice and agency. It ties through to keep things away, keep others together, and lead to escape. I enjoy incorporating horror in my art, and use some aspects to demonstrate the feelings PTSD gives me. Working through trauma and this kind of disorder will always be uncomfortable. This may be a lifelong journey, but I hope that anyone who resonates also understands that just because you are healing and learning to live does not mean you are broken. As stressful as it is, there is joy to be found in reclaiming myself, through my transition, finding my own community, and genuinely figuring out how I want to exist in the world.
